THE STORY OF CAR 6108327

In 1945 Volkswagen began mass-producing a car that would eventually become one of the most popular cars ever built. Originally called the Type 1, we all know it as the Beetle. Reliable and economical, the Beetle was easy to maintain and repair, and parts were easy to come by. In all, Volkswagen built just over 21 million Beetles before retiring the original design in 2003.

Beetle 6108327 left Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg assembly hall on February 11, 1964 mated to engine number 8 366 879. The 1964 model included redesigned front turn signal assemblies and rear license plate light, and an optional steel sunroof. Carried over from the previous model year were the 1200cc, 34bhp engine and 4 speed manual gearbox, a 6 volt electrical system, four wheel drum brakes, a link pin front end and swing axle rear end.

Destined for the Port of New York, Beetle 6108327 was offered for sale through Friar Volkswagen in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
